BIENVENUE DANS NOTRE UNIVERS HYBRIDE!
VOICI UNE PETITE INTRODUCTION:
Le périple musical de Jahnice, LE SONNEUR, a débuté il y a quelques années alors qu’il habitait encore en Mauricie. Là-bas il a découvert sa passion pour la poésie et le chant, mais jamais il n’a pu exploiter son potentiel comme il a pu le faire depuis son arrivée à Montréal en 2003. Il a eu la chance de rencontrer et de travailler avec plusieurs musiciens aussi talentueux qu’exceptionnels. La plupart de ces rencontres ont eu lieu grâce au collectif KALMUNITY VIBE réputé sur la scène musicale et culturelle de Montréal. Ce collectif rassemble depuis 5 ans des jeunes issus de diverses communautés ethniques, les unissant par la création musicale et poétique. C’est au sein de cette équipe qu’il a pu faire la connaissance du musicien PATRICE AGBOKOU. Ce dernier, étant bassiste professionnel et réalisateur, est très actif autant sur la scène locale qu’internationale, collaborant entre autres avec le groupe rock alternatif ISLANDS.
Puisant dans leurs diverses influences et s’inspirant de leur société cosmopolite, ils en viennent à concevoir le « SOUL HYBRIDE », une symbolique universelle musicale et poétique où la mélancolie, la liberté, l’espoir, l’insouciance, le ralliement, l’authenticité et le positivisme tourbillonnent avec allégresse. Comme un feu d’artifice musical, ce son multicolore combine la voix Soul du Sonneur à des harmonies d’inspiration lyrique. Il mélange l’intensité du rock alternatif et les rythmes saccadés des musiques afro-caribéennes aux sonorités électroniques. Autour de ce son avant-gardiste et de leur message rassembleur, Patrice et Jahnice réunissent des musiciens tous issus d’horizons différents. Ensemble, ils forment une petite famille musicale qu’ils appellent JAHNICE+. Ce groupe est composé de NOEL MPIAZA à la batterie, de STEPHANE PETROCCA à la basse, d’ELLI MABOUNGOU aux percussions, d’ANNAM NGUYEN à la guitare et aux choeurs, de GENEVIEVE ST-PIERRE aux claviers et aux choeurs et de MARIE COURNOYER aux chœurs. Avec leur identité et leur « groove » hybride on ne peut rester indifférent à leur musique qui réveille comme un son de cloche!

LET US INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR HYBRID SOUL UNIVERSE:
The musical career of Jahnice, "LE SONNEUR", started when he still lived in Shawinigan (Mauricie). It was there that he discovered his passion for poetry and chanting, but performing his way to his full potential was never an option the way it has been since his arrival in Montreal in 2003. The metropolitan musical hub has afforded him the opportunity to meet and work with many exceptional and talented musicians. Most of these allegiances came through the KALMUNITY VIBE COLLECTIVE, whose (80) members are active and respected in the city's musical and cultural scene. KVC has been gathering weekly for the past five years, serving as a portal for unique voices, operating on the pure informed improvisational instinct of musical and poetic creation. As well as nurturing his artistic growth, KVC has also been the link for Jahnice to the locally and internationally renowned PATRICE AGBOKOU, bassist and producer (alternative rock band ISLANDS being just one of his affiliations).
Fueled by their diverse influences and finding inspiration in their shared cosmopolitan surroundings, the two created HYBRID SOUL, a universal, positivity-charged, poetic tornado of melancholy, freedom, hope, catharsis, authenticity, and a call to action. Like fireworks, their musical sparks and colours unite the soul vocals of Jahnice, classical harmonies, the intensity of alternative rock, syncopated Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and electronic accents. Around their avante-garde sound and common message, Jahnice and Patrice attract musicians from all horizons. Together, they have formed a close-knit musical family called JAHNICE+ (Jahnice "plus"). The hybrid soul team consists of NOEL MPIAZA on drums, STEPHANE PETROCCA on bass, ELLI MABOUNGOU on percussion, ANNAM NGUYEN on guitar and back vocals, GENEVIEVE ST-PIERRE on keys and back vocals, and MARIE COURNOYER on back vocals. With their combined identities and personalities, their groove counters societal indifference of the day, and their sound awakens the spirit with each toll of their (symbolic) bell.
